OKKO Group of Companies has received the first 20 new tank cars manufactured to its order at the TAS-Poltavvagon plant. The contract provides for the production of 100 such tanks in total. It is expected that OKKO will receive the entire batch in early 2025.
“So far, we have had 45 of our own tanks in operation. Some of them are used, some were intended for bitumen transportation, but are now repurposed for diesel fuel. In addition, the company leases more than 400 tank cars. By adding another 100 new units to this number, the company will become a powerful private operator of tank cars for the transportation of petroleum products in Ukraine. Only Ukrzaliznytsia has a larger fleet,” comments Denys Gromov, Director of the Logistics Department of OKKO.
According to him, the new rolling stock will significantly enhance OKKO's logistical agility, will allow it to import petroleum products to Ukraine faster and more profitably, as well as provide transport services to other market participants.
OKKO selected the tank manufacturer from three Ukrainian enterprises in a tender. The possibility of involving foreign companies was also considered, but their products would require additional certification in Ukraine, which could take longer. However, half a year passed from the signing of the contract with TAS-Poltavvagon to the release of the first batch. We are talking about tank cars for petroleum products model 15-1755 with a carrying capacity of 68 tons. The service life of such a tank is 32 years.
“For TAS-Poltavvagon, this is not the first experience of cooperation with OKKO. Previously, our company had already supplied fuel storage tanks to the group's filling stations. And the current contract gives us the opportunity, together with our partner, to join in strengthening Ukraine's fuel security, restore the status of an enterprise producing oil tankers and prove our leadership in this market, - says Yuriy Pisarevsky, General Director of TAS-Poltavvagon. - I admit that maintaining the necessary production rates is currently extremely difficult. For us, every day is a struggle to conscientiously fulfill our obligations to customers and maintain the reputation of a reliable partner. Constant hostile shelling of the region where production facilities are located, long-term power outages, problems with staff shortages and employee bookings are serious challenges for TAS-Poltavvagon. However, I am 100% sure that we will cope with the order in a timely manner and in full. "
We will also remind you that in 2022-2023, OKKO significantly updated its own fleet of vehicles for transporting fuel. The company continues to develop the transport and logistics sector in the future - investments in railway tanks will be several times larger in size. The advance payment under the current contract alone amounted to 100 million hryvnias.
